Chief Executive, Management Accounting

Andrew Harding, FCMA, CGMA
Andrew will lead all Management Accounting activities for the Association, developing plans and strategies, managing relationships and delivering results for members. He is looking forward to developing a best-in-class global professional accounting body, with an initial focus on opening and expanding the U.S. market for the management accounting profession. He will also be focused on driving value for members, firstly by globalizing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Andrew is a Deloitte alumnus, having started his career in the mid-1980s as a trainee auditor. He progressed into training and development from there, and then began professional body work in 1991. He joined CIMA in 2009, originally as Executive Director for Global Markets, and became Managing Director in 2011—a position he held until 2016.

Andrew lists being appointed Chief Executive of CIMA and the first Chief Executive of the Management Accounting PU as a big career achievement, and he is excited about the huge opportunities that working together as one will bring. He is also proud of the transformation that was achieved in CIMA's performance in 2010, which changed the culture and ambition of the organization.

On a personal level, Andrew coached his local youth football team for several years, seeing them grow from the under-9 age group to the under-17 group, capping everything off by winning the regional cup competition in their last game. He sees this as a key achievement in his life and a very rewarding experience.

When asked to describe his leadership style Andrew says he is empowering (he believes in allowing people to use their own talents to shine), target-driven (there must always be something to shoot for and achieve), and keeping a sense of perspective and humor (sometimes it is needed to break tension when managing a difficult task and keep a team moving forward).

Andrew was born in London. He holds an MBA from Henley Business School at the University of Reading, and a BSc (Economics) from the University of Bristol.
